Teachers

Invitational Leadership Institute for the Teaching of Writing

The Invitational Leadership Institute (held each summer in even-numbered years) is for experienced

Pre-K-university educators from all disciplines. To prepare for leadership roles, teachers demonstrate their most effective classroom practices, review research, and improve their knowledge of writing by writing themselves. After the Institute, these teacher leaders join the A3WP professional development cadre.

School-Year and Summer Open Programs

Open programs are designed for teachers, both beginning and veteran, who would like to learn more about Writing Project best practices. Led by experienced A3WP teacher leaders, participants write, experience writing process approaches to the teaching of writing, read current research on the teaching of writing, examine student writing, and make plans to adapt teaching strategies for their own classrooms. Open programs highlight the central role that teachers play in sparking enthusiasm and developing skills in student writers.

Super Saturdays

Held on Saturday mornings during the school year, these workshops are led by A3WP teacher leaders and offer participants new approaches for integrating writing into instruction in all disciplines. Sessions feature research-based approaches and student work.
