April 1, 2025 (4:00-5:00pm via zoom) - LaNesha Tabb
LaNesha Tabb is the author of the “Alpert” books. A delightful series that teaches discrete aspects of the writing process through artistry and humor. The main character Alpert, learns the importance of setting development, the role characters play in a story, and the critical role of conflict and resolution in a story. These colorfully illustrated and accessible books are ideal for the elementary classroom. Tabb is an educator with over 18 years of experience and is the founder of Reimaging Writing, a framework for process-first writing instruction to build confidence in writers. Her talk will feature a reading on one of the books, insight into her process as an author, and recommendations for incorporating the book into the classroom. May 7, 2025 (4:00-5:00pm via zoom) - Charles Walker
Charles Walker is a Professor of History at UC Davis and previous director of the Hemispheric Institute on the Americas. He also serves as the faculty advisor for the Area 3 Writing Project. He has published widely on Peruvian history and his most recent book “Witness to the Age of Revolution” is a graphic novel based on the memoir written by Juan Bautista about the Tupac Amaru rebellion of 1780-1783. It won the 2021 Prose award for non-fiction graphic history.
This beautifully illustrated and powerfully written book is ideal for both history and ELA secondary classes. It blends creative writing, social science, and art for an impactful read.

Traci Huahn is the author of "Mamie Tape Fights to go to School," which tells the little-known history of an 8-year-old Chinese American girl who fought for the right to attend school in the 1880s. Traci brings her love of writing and deep connection to Mamie's story to this beautifully illustrated and masterfully written picture book ideal for the elementary classroom. Her talk will feature a reading of the story, insight into her process as an author, and recommendations for incorporating the book into the classroom.
