"Writing with purpose and conviction: Leveraging Genre Writing for Change" presented by Sovandara Chhin (K/1 teacher from Birch Lane Elementary, DJUSD) for grades K-6.
This workshop brings together ELA goals and History Social Science standards to create authentic writing for students in the elementary classroom. Students work through identifying problems in their community, crafting opinion writing about how to solve those problems, and writing persuasive pieces to convince others to join their cause. Along the way students learn how to hook their audience, use descriptive language, and the many ways they can express themselves. Join us as we explore ways to support the change makers in our classrooms!
